It's tough to get your post count up on this forum. I've found many answers by just browsing though old post so no need to ask and I'm not proficient enough on solar to post replies.
Glad I found this site, a lot of great info.Leave a comment:

i just wired houses like 10 yrs ago so i automatically thought in terms of 120v. im far from knowledgable on it,i guess basically im just having a hard time grasping a basic theory, which is how to figure out how many watts of panels i need to run things.as you can tell i have no clue but wanted to do panels on a truck camper as a learning process and first project to learn from. is that too ambitious for a newb? theres no sarcasm intended i just dont wanna get in over my head
Grid tie is a much simpler system and the learning curve is not as steep.Leave a comment:

Here's my project as of today.
It's an 85W 12v panel, 4 used 6v 225ah batteries and a 10A charge controller. I buried a 2" pipe yesterday to use as the mount for the panel. It's too short at the moment but I plan on adding about another foot or two to get it out of the evening shadows. The panel is about 60' away from my battery shed. The shed still needs a door and some paint.
I'm using this system to run a few lights at night and potentially run the furnace during Winter power outages.
The current setup is too small to run large loads for any extended time so I'd like to add more panels in the future.
