Research adding soft start to AC. Plenty of compressors have been modified to work with smaller generators.
That's not going to give you more advanced speed control. But you didn't state your purpose for this change. There are home automation infrared devices that control split systems. Such as the Remotec Z-Wave ZXT-120 IR Extender for Air Conditioners.
Can a normal Split Air-Con be converted to Inverter Air-Con ?

RUSS you just killed my similar next project.. Iwas hopeful with a few new parts could convert a Chev Corvair to a Porsche 911.Leave a comment:

Short answer NO.
Inverter condensers are designed from the ground up to be used with thier specifically designed indoor air handlers that comunicate with the outdoor unit.
Why would you want to do that anyway? It would cost you more to modify a unit than to buy a complete system that has a at least a six year warranty.Leave a comment:

It would possibly be doable if you change over the circuit board and the motor. As it has digital control over the motor... I took one of mine all apart to see if it possible to disable the higher fan settings .Reason: so no one can alter it from economical settings.. After much experimenting found it very difficult to do. Had to give up as couldnt get it working properly.. Always greeted eventually with "error" and it would turn off.Leave a comment:

I would say it is extremely unlikely that you can upgrade themLeave a comment:

Can a normal Split Air-Con be converted to Inverter Air-Con ?
Independent ( ductless ) Split Air-Cons are common in households. And now there are a new breed of Split Air-Cons called Inverter A/Cs.
These Inverter A/Cs have some additional PCBs, and hardware installed inside them, which reduces the high starting current surge, and also then controls the motor speed in accordance to the room temperature.
I was just thinking, that will it be possible for us that we convert our existing conventional Split Air-Cons to Inverter Air-Con by connecting that special PCB circuit to them ?
Has anyone experimented with any such hardware ? If yes, then please share your findings.
I am attaching herewith pics of some of these PCBs.Inverter Air-Con PCB 1.jpgInverter Air-Con PCB 2.jpg
