You do not have to go to hydraulic until you get to terminating 750 MCM cable. The TBM-8 is one a lot pros use and works well up to 500 MCM, and is fairly inexpensive compared to ta 14 or 15 ton hydraulic. -

Any lead-tin solder, provided both wiring and terminals are copper. You will need a lot of heat (like a blowtorch.)
Crimping is almost always better than soldering. Soldering results in fragile connections that break with any flexing. Also how tight should the cable be in the terminal? Should the terminals be crimped first then soldered?Leave a comment:

Terminals should be crimped only. Proper crimping "cold welds" things together.
Solder wicks up the wire and makes it stiff, creating a "fulcrum" that flexes and breaks the wire at the end of the solder, with any small motion.
I used "Hydraulic Crimping Tool Kit 8 Ton Electric Wire Crimper " which is a metric size. I got mine off an eBay store - http://myworld.ebay.com/sarohs/&_trk...84.m1439.l2754 for about $100Leave a comment:

solder-on battery terminals
Can someone tell what type of solder is the best for solder-on battery terminals? Also how tight should the cable be in the terminal?
Should the terminals be crimped first then soldered?
thanks
