How to use load function on solar charge controller?

    Hello,
I have never quite understood how the load function works on many solar charge controllers. For example, I'm looking at a 60A rated MPPT controller that offers a load function up to 20 amps. I know what a diversion load or dump load is to divert unused current into a heating element. But I don't think that is what these typical load functions on solar charge controllers do. Can someone explain it for me? Thanks!
I'm an RV camper with 470 watts of solar

Usually the "load" output on a charge controller is for some low wattage lighting. Turning on the output is different for each controller.

I have a controller in my off grid system just for the load function. With this controller i can set low v cut out and a cut in v. Essentially i use it to switch off the non critical loads if there is not enough sun.

      Using relays and contactors i run a 240v pump on a timer, a 24v to 12v reducer, a 24 night light and v meter.

Sounds like a Trace/Xantrex C series controller in "Load Control" mode.

For the loadout function on small charge controllers are meant for small, many times, timer controlled loads. Don't ever connect a big load like an inverter to this output, go straight to the battery.

No, its a Plasmatronics PL40. The load function is controlling coils on relays, so only milliamps of load on the circuit.

What is the trigger for when load function comes on/off?

I have it set to turn off at 24v

It will not turn back on until 28.2v

It also had a 10 minute time delay, so a spike to low or high setting will not trigger.
