High Voltage Solar panels - can no load damage them?

A friend tells me that high voltage panels can be damaged if left in the sun with no load. Rumor or fact?

This situation would arise, say, during initial assembly, or could arise if your inverter was offline on a sunny day. Assuming the panel string is within the voltage rating of the panel (say 400V on a 600V rated panel) has anyone experienced problems of this nature?

It is a rumor. Same thing as leaving a battery or generator disconnected.

And if you leave the hose on your lawn overnight, baby snakes will hatch out of it in the morning.
