What is needed and can you add a battery back up to shared grid system?

This would be for light duty use such as a few lights, ceiling fan, computer or TV

What is a "shared grid" system?
A simple answer to your question is you could disconnect from any grid system and use batteries and an inverter to power those devices. One would need to know how many Watts those devices consume and how long they would need to be powered. With that information you could figure out what size inverter and how much battery capacity to acquire.

A Grid InterTie system is designed to run from high voltage solar panel strings.

Battery based inverter systems run from 24 or 48V battery banks, charged by moderate voltage solar strings.

Converting from one kind to the other is usually a major redesign.
