    It depends on the starting surge of the air conditioner, and what the inverter is able to supply. With a good battery, you could likely get away with just one, but as it ages, it may not always start the compressor.

      I suggest you research Mini Split heat pumps, there are a few models that can be DIRECTLY
      powered by solar panels. And probably much more effective and far less noisy than what you
      may have. Otherwise you are looking at an expensive, inefficient, high maintenance battery/
      inverter setup.

      The same unit can supply limited heat when the sun shines. Bruce Roe
