Sounds like a stupid Energy and Wild Fire Policy to me; so can someone from California please explain it to me? I am almost certain there are 300 million more idiots like myself that need enlightened.

Solar panels have already become Greener than trees. With all the panels they have been putting up California will soon become a National Forest.Comment

SIERRA says the Crescent Dunes plant in Nevada generates twice as energy as PV solar the same
area, and can store energy (as molten salt) very efficiently for 24 hour operation. I am betting it is
only practical with intense sun and practically no clouds. Must be quite a project to clear those
10,000 giant mirrors. Bruce RoeComment

I have not heard of any "streamers" at PV plants. A "streamer" is an unfortunate bird that flies through the concentrated beam near the receiver.

A dead bird every two minutes is pretty significant in my book . Too bad they couldn't work out a deal with Walmart for solar rotisserie chickensLast edited by Mike90250; 09-17-2018, 04:36 PM.Comment

That's nothing comp[ared to the carnage of wind farms. TX has huge wind farms. I mean paths of 20 to 50 miles along ridge tops in northern TX and the Panhandle. The ground is littered with dead birds everywhere. Additionally the noise is quite significant. You would not want to live near one, during the day putting up with the noise, and the Beacon Lights at night.

The south pole is the ideal place to run windmills, but then we would need to develop super
conducting DC transmission lines to get the power so far to civilization. Bruce RoeComment

BTW in terms of bird kills a year:
Wind power plants - 328,000
Coal power plants - 7,900,000
Power lines - 64,000,000
Domestic and formerly domestic cats - 3,700,000,000 (that's 3.7 billion)
So I tell you what. You and your sensitive buddies can cry about the poor birds at the border of the wind farm, while the owner laughs all the way to the bank. (And saves a few thousand birds in the process.)

I have a Remington 10-inch Electric Chainsaw. It came with a pole so you can do most of your cutting from ground. Whichever you buy just get an electric.Comment

Many people don't. Many people do. Many utilities really like it - because it is generally load-synchronous, they can get it for under 3 cents a kwhr in some parts of the world and it can be built quickly (compared to nuclear or coal plants.) Which are a few reasons why it's growing so rapidly.
Other utilities, of course, don't like it. If you are in Maine, solar's not your best option.Comment
