  • Need Service Help in New Jersey

    Hi.

I purchased a home in 2017 that came with a complete solar panel system. The system works flawlessly. We are about to start a small renovation project that will require the conduit from the panels to be relocated/rerouted( possibly expanded) and reattached to the inverter.

Unfortunatley, the company that did the original installation is no longer in business.

I have called numerous local solar installation companies to get an estimate for the relocation project and each of them have said they are not interested. The primary reason given is they did not do the original work. I have since reached out to numerous electricians who have balked at doing the work, most citing their lack of experience with solar.

I welcome any suggestions from the members. I'm at a bit of loss and time is of the essence.

(I live at the central Jersey Shore).

    Thank you.
    Sean

Do you have a central inverter, with 500VDC on the roof, or a bunch of micro-inverters under every other panel with 240VAC wiring ?

      Hi Mike,

The latter. The inverters (2) are located in the basement.

That is the former. Two central inverters with 500v on the roof not micro inverters

That's 500VDC on the roof, and most electricians are not acquainted with the unique hazards of energized solar panels and DC arcs, and they know it. So they pass. The solar guys can pick and choose what they want to do.

Not bustin' on the Op, and now that A/C season is upon us, for those considering adding PV in panic when the big A/C bills hit, this thread may be worth a read to add more strength to the argument to only use established, reputable vendors who were around long before PV.

No promises, but using such established outfits who have been around and have some depth and other product lines to support them and were around before PV will probably increase the probability of them being around to service what they sold.

              Welcome TheClarks45,

I live in NJ. And these guys greenpowerenergy dot com did my install (12.2kW DC SolarEdge) and a fellow colleague. I highly recommend them. They routinely service / repair systems installed by others both residential and commercial. Hopefully they can help you out as well.
