Well maybe not. Very busy hurricane season this year has kept me busy since early August. Spent 3 weeks on the TX coast, another 4 weeks Orlando/Gainesville, and a life time on St Thomas. Was suppose to go to Puerto Rico, but declined as we are beat down.
Normally hurricanes do not have much effect on my. This year is different. I seen things I have never seen happen, especially in TX. On utility and city maps, areas were Blacked Out. Come to find out those Blacked Out areas meant no restoration and off limits. Those areas have been written off and lost for good. If you were to go there, you would quickly realize why. Nothing left standing to restore.
I did earn a new nickname, Dog Man. I have a soft spot for dogs and in TX I rescued 26 dogs and returned all 26 to their owners. Our camp was full of dogs. Come to find out two of the dogs were VIP's owned by a Bush. Houston and surrounding area was hit hard. Normally in Houston, you know where it is going to flood, downtown and lower income properties. Those areas were hit, but with 50 to 60 inches of rain, large swaths of land were flooded, even upper income areas that thought they would be high and dry.
Anyway as bad as this may sound, The USA got off on easy street. Yes many people lost their homes, but not their country. St Martin, St Thomas, and Puerto Rico were pretty much wiped out.Not only did you likely loose your home, but there is few or no places to go, no electricity, food or water. When I left St Thomas only 50% of electricity has been restored, and many areas wil not be restored. The islands take a long time to recover as there is no man power, supplies, materials, and heavy equipment. Everything has to be shipped in. In St Thomas we have US military doing the restoration work.
At least St Thomas and St Martin governments are functional, organized, and getting things done. That cannot be said for Puerto Rico where the government is completely incompetent. My heart goes out to the people in Puerto Rico. I seriously think Puerto Rico government will collapse.
Anyway back in TX for a few days cleaning up and celebrating my birthday with family and friends.
