  • solar panel for digital camera battery

    Hi to all!
I need a solar panel for a trekking, I need to charge camera battery (enel-15, 20Wh).

I would use a power bank (Voltaic V72, 73Wh) and I need a solar panel with output in the range 14-20 Volt.
    I have found this panel:
    http://www.shop.ilportaledelsole.com...roducts/SHN20W
and I think it is good for me, have you got any other idea please?

Last question: if a panel has Usb output, is it only 5V?

    thank you
    Andrea

How long trekking? days? weeks? My camera uses the same battery and last several days of moderate use. Weight wise and size wise, I would just carry the batteries needed for the trek. lighter and easier to pack than a solar panel.

      Hi!
8 days. I have a battery Voltaic V72 (https://www.voltaicsystems.com/v72) and this solar panel to charge it: http://www.shop.ilportaledelsole.com...roducts/SHN20W
I have a Nikon D800 and I use one or two battery enel-15 every day. I have some batteries but I need a power bank and a solar panel.

Based on that 20Ah (20,000mAh) battery you will need more than what that 20watt panel (Imp = 1.14A) can provide. Maybe something around 40watts.

I don't charge my battery directly with the panel, but through the power bank.
My battery is 19000mAh, and the stored energy in each battery is around 14 Wh. The power bank can store 72Wh (as 3,5 battery). A panel with 17W, in perfect condition, can recharge the 72Wh power bank in around 8 hours, so it is ok....

Ok. But where in the world are you going to get 8 hours of useful sunlight in a day. NO WHERE.

Even if you are in an area that gets 5 to 6 hours of useful sunlight you have to aim the panel directly at the sun for the majority of that time.

My guess is that with that small panel it could take days to recharge as long as you don't use the battery the same day you charge it. If that is ok with you then enjoy the system. Otherwise you might want to look into a bigger wattage panel.

Hi barnabo. I'm a Scoutmaster and last summer I took our scout troop on an 8 day trip through southern Yosemite. I did not have this but I did run into a couple that had been out for two weeks and they had this unit to charge their cell phone for photos. He clipped it to his backpack when hiking and then when they made camp he would run a string line and let it hang facing the sun. The hiker said it worked for him but it does weight a pound and an half. (me - I bring a small AA powered Nikon camera with an extra set of batteries and I took over 500 photos).

Five years ago we did another 8 day trip in Emigrant wilderness and for 3 days we were on the Pacific Crest Trail. I saw a number of hikers with similar setups hanging from their packs but did not ask any what units they had - I'm sure over that timeframe products have come and gone.

Oh and a note. When they hang it from the pack, they are really hanging it near the top of the pack brain so it is somewhat facing up - it is not hanging from the vertical part of the pack.

Along with what Tyab suggested... Anker, GoalZero, and Instapark all sell foldable solar panels, generally reviewed well when used as intended, at various sizes, and in more or less comprehensive kits. Between them, you might be able to find what you are looking for.

You are right, but i talked about 3,5 battery in ideal condition, and for me it would be enough to charge 1 battery (20Wh) at day.
