  • What watt solar panel can do this job for me?

I live in Michigan, USA. Need to know what wattage solar panel to buy. Plan to connect it to my MPPT solar charge controller and have a 12 volt, 12 amp hour battery kept charged during daylight hours. In the meantime the battery will be continuously powering a 12 volt .30 amp small fan motor. Battery will power that fan motor 24 hours every day/night continuously.
Will a 50 watt solar panel have the power to not only charge the battery during the day but also sustain the fan motor. The battery must be fully charged during the day to keep the fan running all night.

    .3a x 24 hrs x 3 days = 22ah
So, a conventional 90ah deep cycle battery & 100W of PV panel should keep that fan going a long time. And you need a small charge controller
Maybe the 50w panel can keep up with the 90a battery

But the current 12ah battery is not going to last too long, the daily cycle depth is going to ruin it pretty quick

Panel Wattage = 75 using a PWM 5 amp controller.
      12 Volt Battery = 40 AH

Mike check your math. Not enough coffee this morning? How do we get from 22 AH in 3 days to 90 AH in 5 days?

        Should be [.3 amps x 12 volts x 24 hours x 5 days] / 12 volts = 36 AH

Did I misunderstand, or did you not have coffee? 90 AH with 100 watt panel will work until October, then the sun sets for winter and not seen again until April in MI.

I've been infected with karapitis and not thinking clearly, Can't ban them fast enough for my taste.
that 36ah battery will likely cost as much as the 90ah sold by the gazillions. But maybe an AGM is needed to keep losses lower.
There are just so many things to consider, I've started to just throw panels at things to keep them going,

What's the cost of some extra PV capacity vs the fan in the privy not working and stuff overflows ?
50w on a required 36ah battery vs 100w on a larger 90ah - is only a little bit under paneled and should still work OK
