I have 4 big surrette batteries on my solar system, I want to mount them in my truck permanently, and charge them with my alternator when I drive to work, then when I come home, I can plug them into my inverter and run my house lights all night. What am i going to need for an alternator. I feel as if I would burn out a normal alternator. Someone said I'll have to start with a battery isolator. Any help would be appreciated, thanks

So what does 4 big Surrette batteries mean? Are they 12 volt @ 100 AH, or 6 volts # 2000 AH. No one can answer until you give data.MSEE, PEComment

You will need a seperate alternator and regulator for your deep cycle batteries.
But consider if the batteries are rated for fixed or mobile use ?? Their weight on the truck, and the fuel used to charge them and haul them around.
A small honda eu2000 or other inverter generator, coupled with a .9PF charger will burn a LOT less fuel, and you will not bounce your batteries to death.
Or add more panels.
Your truck is a poor battery charger station.
