    battery bank disconnect

I'm about to install a modest battery bank (48V/400amp hours) as part of my grid-tie with battery backup system, using the Outback Radian 8048A inverter. Do I need to install a disconnect switch between the battery bank and the inverter's load center, or will the circuit breakers in the load center suffice as a disconnect switch?

The battery bank will be located roughly 6 feet from the load center. Should I install a fuse on the positive side of the circuit, right next to the battery bank, or will the circuit breaker in the load center take care of that as well?

    Thanks for your help.

If you protect the + & - cables well ( like each one inside it's own liquid tight flex conduit ) you could get by with just the breaker in the load center. Does your local electrical inspector need to inspect high power battery systems ? He may have a different opinion.
