Conduit type for D.C. Power off solar rooftop installation

Conduittyoe for D.C. Power from rooftop solar installation

I am installing 40 modules with power optimizers which are to be run to a pair of central inverters in basement. My idea is to penetrate roof and run conduit down to basement. I'm reading that this would require EMT or some other type of metallic clad conduit... is this correct ?

I am am an electrician taking on this project on my own house.

    Thanks !

If you are a sparky you should know. Try reading 690. You can use EMT, Rigid, PVC, or any other type you would use for any power and light conductors. Have you tried asking on a professional forum like Mike Holt?

Ask your local AHJ - as many of them vary from the Code on issues like this. What we do is just use EMT for all solar installations and them there is no question.

        Ditto +1

        Golden Rules

        1. Inspector and Wifey are always correct.
        2. If Inspector or Wifey is in error, refer to rule 1.

Follow those two rules and you will pass inspection, and have a happy marriage.

690.31 G requires the DC conductors to be in a metal conduit or MC cable.
