  • adding to an existing system

I bought an old shuttle bus with 2 batteries. One for engine, one for auxiliary lights, passenger door, etc. Bought new batteries. Bought 100 W solar panel and 30 amp PMW charge controller to service the auxiliary battery. Will install corrupt the existing system if I just hook the panel through the controller to the aux. battery? I just want to keep it charged.

If you have a decent controller that won't boil the battery dry, it will be fine, Beware cheap controllers without setpoints that match your battery.
How does the engine starting battery stay charged up ?

I bought a Renogy Wanderer charge controller, lots of safeguards. Thanks for the comment.

The engine battery and auxiliary battery are both charged by the alternator, but I only run the engine 20 minutes a week. If the engine battery becomes weak, I can jump it with the aux. battery.
