I currently have a 34,640 watt system and am adding another array with a capacity of 8,800 watts.
The existing 34,640 watt system consists of 80 265 watt panels and 48 275 watt panels. Each panel has a 250 watt micro-inverter on it, so the max AC output is therefore 32,000 watts. The line voltage from the POCO is pretty high where I am, averaging about 250 volts. So 32,000 / 250 = 128 Amp.
I understand you should never exceed 80% of the capacity of the main breaker (in the sub-panel), so in my case that is 200 x.8 = 160 Amp. So 160 - 128 = 32A. So I have 32 Amps of unused capacity.
My new array consist of 32 275 watt panels connected to a SMA Sunny Boy 7.7 US. The nominal current output of the 7.7 just happens to be 32A @ 240V.
So I should be *just* on the inside edge of that 80% continuous rating of the 200A main breaker in my solar sub-panel, right?
That 200A solar sub-panel is wired with 3/0 gauge to a 400A meter base (mine) local about 15' away. From there it is 500 MCM Al to the 400A disconnect switch, which in turn is connected to the POCO 400A meter base.
