  • Single Wire Tie Down

I need to control 4 wires, each individually running some 70 feet connecting panels. The black plastic
ties seem to be labeled as short lived, so what other options are out there? Sections of PV wire tied
    around each? Bruce Roe

Carbon black is the key ingredient........but replace every ten years. 2% carbon black seems to be optimum.

Thanks, think I will try out the SS ties for the first time. This had better last more than 5 years, there are plenty
of black plastic ties out there already for comparison. Many see very little actual sun.

Will also be making up a few MC4 extension cords to connect 24 panels end to end the long way. Am also going
to put OX-Gard on the MC4 contacts to see how it goes. Bruce Roe

The ones we use at all of the State of CA radio sites are made by Panduit, are blue, and last well over ten ten years. I think the material is "Tefzel" but I'm not certain. I'll try to get the part numbers if I remember on Monday, but definitely Panduit, and blue, kind of an aqua color. They outlast all of the black ones we've tried.

Just happen to know the part numbers. Panduit TLP series. If you want ties that last forever plus 1 day use Stainless Steel like Panduit MLT Series.

Looks like they all have some kind of coating, apparently to avoid getting cut at installation. That
coating will not last as long as the 316 stainless core, hope they continue to do the job after that.
It would be bad if they cut through my wires. Have been making 304 SS exhaust systems for my
cars for decades, they are all still in service.

Didn't compare prices, will start some from ULINE. thanks, Bruce Roe

+1. Bottom line, you want nice - you pay nice.

The coating on the stainless ties is OK if it holds up, otherwise it turns into an intermod generator.
