Of the 3 devices you mentioned, 2 of them can/do already run directly from DC, My main question is/was how is the X-box powered, if you can eliminate the need for AC power, you can greatly reduce the size of your battery bank. Off Grid is much easier on the budget w/o an inverter. If you do plan to run an inverter, plan to increase your battery bank another $1000 to 2000 dollars and you will need another 250 watt to 300 watt panel just to cover the inherent losses. If your X-box can run directly from DC, then you do not need an inverter at all and can save thousands of dollars.4X Suniva 250 watt, 8X t-105, OB Fx80, dc4812vrfComment

In the long run it will be cheaper to pay the 5K and adopt the minimal POCO bill, likely less than 50 per mo. or you could spend 5K on a FLA battery bank and replace it every 4 to 5 years, 2 to 3 years for properly maintained Gels. If you use FLA's and make it to 5 years, broken down monthly and given incidentals you will likely average in excess of 100 per month. so you chose.Comment

I am grid interactive, so my numbers are a rough guess, My inverter uses 30watt's, some use more some use less. either way on a 24X7 run you need more batteries and more solar panels to run an inverter.4X Suniva 250 watt, 8X t-105, OB Fx80, dc4812vrfComment

I have a 3000 sq ft. house under AC in the south, and my pre install usage was never over 200 per month. with pool, dock lights, security cameras, 65"TV and my work shop.4X Suniva 250 watt, 8X t-105, OB Fx80, dc4812vrfComment

If I had a 500mo electric bill, I would check for power spiders. like incandescent light bulbs, frost free refrigeration. sweat free refrigerator seals and the like.4X Suniva 250 watt, 8X t-105, OB Fx80, dc4812vrfComment

Unfortunately what you have already spent for the solar equipment will not get you much in the way of power. Especially if your existing bill is $500 per month even using what they charge for electricity on the West coast you would have to be using a lot of power.Comment

Or is the OP saying that his power company charges him a minimum of $500 per month just to stay connected regardless of how much power he uses?
Some mini grids and cooperatives with very high infrastructure costs might operate that way.SunnyBoy 3000 US, 18 BP Solar 175B panels.Comment
