    Howdy

I probably should have joined this forum (or another like it years ago) however I've been really fortunate with my projects so far and have only a couple of $20 check valves that didn't work out.

A little history about myself: My family (wife, 2 kids, 18 chickens, 20 goats and 2 Labradors) and myself live above 6000' in the Montana Rockies in this off-grid home that I built myself (every nail, screw, pipe, wire, etc...not just playing GC)

We produce ~35 KwH/day with a 1800W solar array and a Harris turbine making 1150W

We dump our excess power into two 30A 48V water heating elements, which heats all our domestic hot water and some of our concrete pad.

I've been thinking about adding water panels (or tubes) so I can reduce the 10 cords of wood we burn per year. The amount of (sometimes contradicting) information on this topic, and the amount of info here led to me joining.

Here is the eye candy before everyone asks:

Hi! Thanks for registering and sharing your photos. It's greatly appreciated.

We have a few members who are off grid. Hopefully you can learn some things as well as contribute some of your knowledge.

I look forward to seeing you around!

      Hi Prometheus - Welcome!

Quite a system and a really decent location. Suppose it gets a bit snowy in the winter.

The pictures were great, even the one of the piping!

Thanks for the welcome everyone. One drawback of our location is not having a phone line and therfore inexpensive internet. Sometimes during busy times of the year (like now) I don't have net access for quite awhile.

Some years we will have six (or more) feet of snow on the ground till spring. I keep two snow plows (in case one breaks down) and two snowmobiles (in case both plows break down).
