  • off grid rv solar ..question about isolaters / circuit

    Hey all ,
I'm new to this forum and very impressed by the amount of info .
My question should be simple ,so here it is ..Back story first
5 years ago I ended up in a wheelchair, with friends help we were able to put a wheelchair lift in the back of my Travel Trailer.
I use 2 6volt batteries for all my trailers power requirements ,
I have added 2 80watt solar panels and a mppt Charge controller to make up for the heavy draw the hydraulic lift takes but I have found after repeated use the lift draws down the house batteries a lot.
I am adding a 12V 100Ah battery for just the lift , I am also adding a 100watt solar panel to my system.
What I am looking to do is Have the solar charge both house and lift batteries but not have the lift affect the house batteries charge .
so I understand a Isolator would do this but what kind of Isolator would I use ..I read up on them and some have the alternator stud some don't ..some consume power some don't ..My batteries are all Lead Acid ...
Can some one school me on what I would use
    Thanks Redz

You cannot use the type of isolator that has only blocking diodes as the MPPT controller needs to see battery voltage to start up, with a common diode isolator there will be no voltage on the input terminal even though the batteries may be fully charged.
