  • Setup help please

    Hi guys
need a little help with a basic setup I'm trying to get running.
The setup will be running a small 20w irrigation pump ideally I'd like it to be running constant 24hr
    195w mono panel
    110ah leisure battery
    20amp charge controller
Pump runs fine off the controller load outlet with just the battery connected
but soon as the solar is connected to controller the pump stops
    What am I doing wrong
There is a 5amp fuse on the pump side
    and 20amp on battery
Could the settings on the charge controller need changing?
any help would be great Thankyou

    simple math first
    load 20w x 24 hrs = 480wh
    PV 140w x 4 hr = 560wh

So if you barely got 4 good hours of sun, with realistic losses, you could likely run it.

As to why the load cuts off. See if your controller has a "night light" function for the load. Where, as the sun goes down, it switches on the light for night time. The manual should tell you

Charge controller is set to 24hr
can't work out why pump runs ok until solar is connected.

        What controller are you using?

May be the voltage too high for the pump? may be faulty panel? does the panel charge the battery when the pump shut down? wrong wiring between the panel and the charge controller?
          Good luck.

We really need to know the brand and model of the charge controller to help you further. Can you supply that information?
The fact that the pump runs off battery but stops when the PV is connected really points to an error in the configuration of the controller. Try just connecting the pump directly to the battery and monitoring the voltage carefully instead of trying to use the load output with both the Low Voltage CutOff (LVCO) function and possibly other logic options.
