    Help with non-standard panel

    Not to hijack but I cant seem to start a new topic. I'm in a similar boat though. I got 4 240w Vmp 47.6 Imp 5.04v Voc 58.9v and 4 12v 150ah batteries. I am not sure what the actual voltage of the panels are I thought 48 but I am thinking 24 now. I would prefer 24 then I can setup the batteries as 24v @ 300ah system. Thanks and again sorry about the hijack

      It looks like you have something like Canadian Solar's CS5P-240P. That isn't considered a "battery panel", sized to support a particular voltage... it would be something like a "33 V panel" if you went by battery sizing.... safe to use on a 24 V system, but too small for 48 V unless oyu had two in series.

      In practice, to get the most out of that panel you'll need an mppt controller. If you use a PWM controller with that on a 24 V system, it would effectively turn your 240 W panel into a 120 W panel.

          So it was most likely designed for a grid tied system initially? I will set the batteries up as 24v @ 300ah and get a mppt. Thanks so much I was struggling to find the right things to use this at my camp.
