  • Help with multi geneators

i am off grid, no solar just running propane generators. Usage is recreational cabin only. Current set up , 5kw Onan split phase into 60 service panel. All 115 volt loads. We reduced our loads substantially over the past few years. We can now operate on our Honda EU2000 propane generator. Would like to keep Onan as back up. Is this possible. Add a generator interlock on 2-2 pole breakers for main power. For the Honda, jumper 2 pole breaker to bring power to L1 and L2 in service panel with Onan? Do I also need to switch neutrals with a interlock?
Thanks for all the info over the years. Learned a lot on this site to one day add solar.

No Neutral does not need to be switched, Just make sure that an Equipment Ground is run from each generator frame

On the other hand, if one or both generators have a GFCI breaker on their output you would have to switch the neutral too or risk GFCI trips because of neutral current traveling over the EGC because of the multiple EGC to neutral bonds.

The multiple bonds (one at each generator) would also be a technical NEC violation even if there were no GFCI to cause problems.
If you put one EGC to neutral bond at the house panel and do NOT bond at either generator you will be in full compliance without switching the neutral.
Some generators (usually recent models for portable use) have a bond at the generator which is not simple to disconnect and disconnecting it may violate the generator use instructions.
