  • SunEdison SILVANTIS F-SERIES 325W Mono question

    In a 24V system, can I safely string 3 of these panels in series in conjunction with a 40 Amp Tracer4215BN charge controller?

    The 40A charge controllers specs for 24V are:
    Max PV = 1,040 Watts
    Max 150 Volts at minimum operating environment temperature (for me, -22 degrees F.)
    Max 138 Volts at 25 degrees C

    And the PV panel specs are:
    Open Circuit Voltage (VOC)_ = 46
    Vmpp = 37.3
    Rated maximum power = 325 Watts
    Short circuit current = 9.27 A
    Impp = 8.72 A
    VOC Temperature Coefficient C°= -0.31
    VMP Temperature Coefficient C°= -0.43

    I would NOT string 3 in series. for your -22 only 2 panels in series Sorry

      Will the volts exceed 150 at -22 degrees F.? Is there a means whereby this is calculated?

        Temperature coefficient (in your specs) would add over 17 volts to your open circuit voltage of 138voc @ -22f. Can you just use smaller 60 cell modules?

          Since the Tracer has the same voltage limit as MS-TSMPPT, I would use their calculator to check the low temp voltage:
          http://string-calculator.morningstarcorp.com/
          chose the PS-MPPT-40 as being very close to the same specs as your Tracer. Then use the other drop down boxes to
          pick your panels and local 50 year record low temps.

            Would the 60 cells per panel LG Neon2 with 320 Watts and 40.9V at VOC/STC work? Can 3 of these be wired in series?

            In general it seems that for some reason 60 cell panels are the more favorable choice here. And that 72 cell panels are out.

              60 cell panels are inherently lower voltage than 72 cell. You should still calculate the temp. coefficient but even with the comparatively high voltage of these panels you will likely come in under the 150voc limit.
