Can Distilled water be susituted with purifined water for the FLA batteries?

Hi guys,

The dealer where I get my last set of batteries has "battery water" for sale at a faction the cost compare to the dealer where I usually bought my battery water. I ask my regular dealer about the water other dealer sell. He said those water are purified water are not true distilled water. if what he said is true, can those water be safe for the FLA battery? what element in the water will cause problem for the battery, Can the lab verify it?

If in fact what the other dealer is selling Purified Water is true. It is not Distilled.

Any element other than H20

Yes

Distilled is the default choice. However there are some Purified Water can be used which is deionized water purified with reverse osmosis. I can tell you right now the water the other dealer has IS NOT Deionized with Reverse Osmosis because it cost a lot more than distilled.

You could make your own still and get two products. Distilled Water and Alcohol to drink. You can even make money doing it selling the Moonshine.

Maybe. I bought a TDS meter to test the local water store water (just 40 cents / gallon) It's just as good as distilled ($1.20 / gallon) I test every batch I pick up.

In JMD is around $3000 to $15,000 Could take quite a while to pay for itself, but in Jamaica could pay for itself with one time use as I would not trust even Distilled Water. Just too damn easy to counterfeit stuff in Jamaica. Would not surprise me one bit someone filling up water bottles with Blue Hole and capping them and selling as Distilled or Purified water.

Do not know why I did not think about this before, it is what they do here in Panama. The purest water you can get is RAIN WATER. Does it rain in Jamaica? . seriously a TSD meter and a charcoal or sand filter would be a good solution for you. You have no air pollution to worry about, well except Ganja clouds hanging around Negril. Only thing to worry about is dust and dirt floating around in the air which is flushed out after a few minutes and easily removed with a charcoal or sand filter.

I try to make a new topic on this and it didn't go through. I don't know if because I post two links on Amazon com for the meters I got or what.

I use two meter to check 5 different waters, the result as follows.

Tap water =226ppm
Rain water caught when it was falling.=6 to 7 ppm
Rain water stored in the plastic drum out side for a while=8ppm

The water from Tropical battery dealer (not distillate water)=117ppm
The water from Solar system and part dealer (they say it is distillate water)=6ppm.

Can I use my rain water to fill the battery? if not what should I look for.
