    36 volt batteris

    hi all, Newbie here.

I'm setting up a small off grid solar system for our cabin and today I stumbled across two 36 volt batteries for a very good price ($68 each vs. $229 regular price). The batteries are for an electric bike called a Strong, that was sold at Canadian tire. Can I use them for my set up? Should I get both? My system will be using a converter to convert to regular household power. Anyone have experience with these? I have attached a picture if it helps.

    Much thanks in advance!!!

Alan stay away from those batteries, they will do nothing but cause you greif. For one they are only are only 15 AH batteries which is fine if all you want to do is run a laptop. The other huge probleem is they are 36 volts. Good luck trying trying to find a 36 volt inverter or any device that runs off 36 volts.

No info in quick web search on what kind of battery that is. But likely lead acid, hopefully sealed. 300 charge cycles maximum. Strong was last in business back in 2007, so if the battery has been sitting around that long it will be totally dead if it is lead-acid. Nominal 36 volts argues for lead acid too.
Only other good possibility would be NiCad. In which case it might still take and hold a charge.
But you will not find many of either solar chargers or inverters for 36 volts or 72 volts.
My advice: At that price definitely pass.
