  • Fuses please

Hi, I'm new to this forum and solar panel gadgets so please be gentle!

i am installing a 100w flexible panel to my campervan which I bought as a kit, I have 4mm cable, a 20amp mppt charge controller and a 110ah battery. What I'm confused about is which size of fuse do I need between the charge controller and battery? My calculations say 10amp (but my maths is rubbish), however others have said between 20-25 amp fuse so I've bought a 20amp circuit breaker, but now I'm thinking that I just don't know!?!?! Do any of you have the same set up and if so what size fuse are you using? Thanks alot for any help!

20 A breaker for a 20 A mppt is usually ok, and fine for that cable.

Thanks very much! Should I also have a fuse/circuit breaker between the panel and CC (and if so what size?), or just go for the 20amp breaker between the CC and battery? Thanks

There is nothing to be gained from installing a fuse between the panel and CC, since the panel output current is already limited (Isc). If you had more than two panels or strings in parallel, different story.

Anything else you connect to the battery (inverter, etc) should also have over-current protection sized for the load and conductor.

That's great cheers for your help. I am planning on adding another 100w panel at some point but I'll figure that out (or probably just ask here again) when the time comes. Thanks again, Ash
