    limescale issues

Hello, I have a very simple open solar water system powered by PV. It's been working fine for several years. Basically water from the hot water tank circulates through the panels back into the hot water tank. I live in an area of moderate hard water so I use a water softener. The water softener had not been working properly for some time(its now working again) and I expect I may have built up limescale restricting flow.

Can anyone see any issues if I circulate limescale remover through the system. I am thinking of using a bucket of water with Calgon in and connect this to the pump input.. I would collect the dirty water into a bucket at the other end, flush with clean water and reconnect the system backup afterwards.

If you do this, plan to let the solution sit for awhile rather than continuously pumping. Or else pump and recirculate the same solution until you are ready to flush, drain, rinse and repeat. And make sure that you have an open line so that the gas given off during the process does not build up pressure.
