  • matching solar panel with batteries

    Hi All,

I've a 24V 175w solar panel and a 2000ah 12v battery with a 1000w inverter. I use this for my laptop, 40w LED tv with a50w satellite decoder. My problem is that I seldom use more than two hours before the battery drains.

Well it means your solar panel is way too small. It is really not big enough to overcome the self discharge of the battery. I also bet you are using a PWM controller and with a 24 volt 175 power comes out of the controller at 65 watts.

Assuming this is a flooded lead acid battery battery the minimum panel wattage using a MPPT controller, well acutally 2-80 amp MPPT charge controllers at 12 volts is 2000 watts. You only missed it by 1825 watts.

Thank you Dereck for that, now what can you recommend in my situation because am not sure of the controller fixed because I do not know to differentiate between the two. All I know that it controls overloads, battery discharge and that it is a 12/24V 30A among other things like indicating amps from the solar panel and also battery to bulbs

Are these multiple 12v batteries in parallel? If so there are more problems than cc type and array size.
          How old are the batteries?
