I have a renogy 50 Watt Polycrystalline Solar Panel and 10w pwm controller. I have a 35w 12v air compressor for pond aeration. I would like this to run during the day when the heat is the hottest in are pond. Should i just run the panel to the pump and leave controller and battery out of it. The controller i have is only at night and i dont see it running long at all unless i get more batteries. Im new to the solar game and anything would help. Thanks

You don't need the 10W PWM controller, it's too small anyway.
You do need a LCB - Linear Current Booster to keep your DC motor running safely. Should the OP also look into some type of temperature control switch to only run the pump only when the pond gets hot?Comment

Actually the OP should run the pump 24/7, but that require a lot of panel and battery even just 35watts, He should use the battery as a stabilizer and run the pump as long as it can.Comment

I guess it depends if there are fish in the pond and what vegetation needs to grow and what doesn't need to grow like algae.Comment

The OP has a 50W panel. That panel will not support much more than the 35w pump, and even then, just a few peak solar hours. There is no benifit to add a new charge controller and a battery, it may only add a half hour to the pump run time.
Now, if there is more budget, a 35W pump consumes 840 watt hours per 24 hour day. So he needs at least 2,000 wh of battery at 12.5V (would be 160 aH) Two 6V 200ah golf cart batteries would be a nice starting point. And then to use 4 hours of solar light to recharge would need 400watts of PV and a 35a charge controller. 2 panels would give you a bit more run time, and possibly allow for running if it's cloudy

I have a question guys. The lcb has a yellow wire for a float switch. Do I have to hook this up to panel negative for the lcb to work or can I just leave it off. I was just goin to have the pump turn on as much as possible and never have a on off switchComment
