deciding which battery terminals to uti for connecting charge controller and inverter

Hello.... I a m looking for a diagram that shows the best way to wire a charge controller and inverter to a 24v (2x12v in series) battery bank. I know how to wire batteries in series but which terminals would I use for the cc and inv? I can envisage a few scenarios.
1. cc and inverter from same battery.( doesnt sound ideal)
2. cc to 1st battery, inv from 2nd battery. (plausible)
3. cc positive to 1st battery, cc negative to 2nd battery and vice versa for the inverter. (I recall reading that it is better to utilise "opposite" corners of the battery bank for "charge in" and "draw out" to keep things balanced so to speak)

Look at http://smartgauge.co.uk/batt_con.html for good information on how to connect batteries or strings of batteries in parallel. Basically what you are hinting at in scenario 3.
For a single series string there will be one negative and one positive terminal left over after you have interconnected the batteries. Those terminals are where the CC, inverter, and any other loads will connect. But there should be fuse or other overcurrent device between the battery + terminal and the common + connection point.

With 2 batteries in series you still have only one + and - to use,
