A local Arizona installer is working with SMA to install battery systems along with solar to specifically shave peak power usage and minimize demand charges:

American Solar also will equip the homes with lithium-ion batteries that can charge during midday when solar production peaks, and dispatch power in late afternoon to minimize power being drawn from the utility.

Key to the system is a controlling device made by German manufacturer SMA, which will allow the system to be programmed around SRP's rates, or any other utility that implements demand charges, Seitz said.

I still think load controllers might give more bang for the buck but time will tell. Maybe both together.

Zinc Bromide - intriguing. I don't have experience with those particular battery types, but no lifespan loss after 100% discharge? Colour me intrigued....

Redflow

Redflow is the name of the company they recently signed a deal to go into production (I believe the company manufacturing them is in Mexico). I spoke to one of their reps who basically said they have no plans of developing a consumer distribution channel as the batteries are part of a system and need BMS and other integration components. They have partnerships with "integrator" some pretty big names on the list (Emmerson, Schneider). It would appear that the primary focus is going to on the large commercial storage market so unless one of the integration partners wants to look at the small (as in KW) RE market it could be some time before we see anything commercially available yet alone backed up by supporting data for RE use.
