  • help needed please to set up a system

    I want to set up a solar system. I have a 250 gallon pond
    I already bought the solar panel 40watt and a solar charge controller
    this is the solar panel
    http://www.amazon.com/ALEKO%C2%AE-40...tt+solar+panel

    This is the solar charge controller
    http://www.amazon.com/Docooler-Contr...rge+controller

    I would like to use a ac pump..

    any advice of which inverter to get, along with a suitable pump and battery to make the system work...

    thank you

    Your first mistake was that you did not buy the pet fish first, before building the pond.

    You have done this absolutely backwards.
    First, you buy the most efficient pump for your size pond. Take into account the required volume and lift, and any plumbing restrictions or strainers.
    Decide how many hours a day the pump needs to run.
    calculate the energy required. 250W pump x 6 hours =1500watt hours.

    Decision time. 200' of 16 ga extension cord = $90 or
    600w of solar panels, charge controller, battery, inverter, PV panel mount, raintight shed for the gear. $5,000
    Powerfab top of pole PV mount (2) | Listeroid 6/1 w/st5 gen head | XW6048 inverter/chgr | Iota 48V/15A charger | Morningstar 60A MPPT | 48V, 800A NiFe Battery (in series)| 15, Evergreen 205w "12V" PV array on pole | Midnight ePanel | Grundfos 10 SO5-9 with 3 wire Franklin Electric motor (1/2hp 240V 1ph ) on a timer for 3 hr noontime run - Runs off PV ||
    || Midnight Classic 200 | 10, Evergreen 200w in a 160VOC array ||
    || VEC1093 12V Charger | Maha C401 aa/aaa Charger | SureSine | Sunsaver MPPT 15A

        He could use that panel and charge controller with a 30Ah battery and run some low wattage DC lights around the pond

          I am just going to get a 12-24v dc pump , since the pond already has an ac pump...I just wanted to add a solar feature and I learnt yo can connect the 12-24v pump directly to the solar panel

            Depending on the pump some DC motors will not work correctly (or continuously) just connected to the panel.

            There are DC Solar pumps that work directly from a solar panel without batteries but most have some type of controller that keeps the pump safe.
