    I read this yesterday and it reminds me of an RV refrigerator that is powered with propane gas. It does not look like that this is a new invention, but is more like an improvement.

      Nothing new, other than using a different working fluid (methanol) .
      1923 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Icyball using ammonia, as did all early refrigerators.

      Butane, Propane have all been used as working fluids. Ammonia was abandoned as being too poisonous for household use, but is still used for commercial sites. Methanol is a bit less deadly, but still flammable like butane & propane & ammonia.
