  • can I use my 12v inverters and set up 24v battery bank?

    Batteries are 4 12v agm 92ah.
    I just got a xantrex xw mppt 60-150 so I can bring 24v or 48v from pv to controller but I already have a 12v 2000w pure sine inverter. Can I step down to it if I series the batts to 24v or 48v for better efficiency?

      12v parallel it is then, at least til we can afford a grid tie inverter/charger in a year or two

        You have commercial AC power? Now taking things off grid? That is foolish.

          Unreliable grid in thunder storms and winter weather in general requires back-up;

          Lived off grid 10 years ago in less favorable circumstance; think of this exercise in small scale solar/wind as a semester of RE lab course to gain some "dirt road" cred.
          I've been working on an old hippy's off grid "under ground" earthen roofed, passive solar, log framed home so the crash course will be applicable w/out student loan debt
          rocket stove thermal mass heater and in ground green house in the works also
