    Dudes, is there a simple way to tell how to install the red and black wiring to the panel?

    The convention is the red is the positive, black is the negative

    The leads from the panel should be labled somehow, either where they exit the J-Box, or molded in the cable connector.

      Good, but I meant on the panel itself. One has to follow the pattern or direction of the wafers? The bottom wafers should all end up being positive and the top ones almost all negative? How about the bus wire? What really is the formula to follow? If one uses bus wire to connect the rows, at what point do you use regular electrical wire?

      Sorry dude, this dude is just a beginner in this endeavour and this wiring thing got me somewhat confused.

        You have to go by the mfd's of the wafers, as to which is + and - (back and front or front & back) and then you can locate wire charts, and tables, which state wire gauge needed for how many amps, and then you can convert the cross-sectional area from the wire, to the cross-section of the copper foil tape you are using. thinner tape obscures less of the PV cell, but heats up more, and has higher resistance. These are all things that panel manufacturers have to sort out and deal with. Some mfg's will use a square or rectangular wire like transformer winders use, to get thinner overall panels. All depends on your needs, what you want to do.

            I use panels, I don't make them. Too many things to go wrong, and stuff. Maybe some of the others here that make panels can help you. Home built is good for learning, but for 20 + years of reliable power, the factory ones are unbeatable.
