  • what should be the distance between the two panel rows.

hi to every one,,, im installing 1kW system off grid, im using 4 no.s of 250W panel each of length 1m x 2m. I cant place the 4 panels in the same line due to less place,,,,,, i can place 2 in one row and another 2 in next row,,,,,

What should be the distance maintained in between two rows(to avoid shading).

How to calculate it..... please help me.

that depends on where you are.

Sketchup has a shadow tool that is fairly easy to use. Just takes a little steup for you location once you get the panels drawn.

You're looking for something that uses what's called the profile angle. Most decent solar texts describe it. NREL'S "SAM" handles shading from adjacent rows of collectors but on a horizontal surface only at this time. Learning SAM for just that one reason seems counterproductive for the time and sweat probably required. There are probably other, easier ways to come up with a solution. W/out a plug & chug software app or a graph, some knowledge of solar geometry is necessary. I'd SWAG, plan for the panels in landscape if possible and start with 4X the vertical height of the 1st row as spacing to the 2d row, get a profile angle at 8 A.M and 4 P.M. solar time on Dec. 21 and see where the shadows fall. Plug in "profile angle" on the net. I bet you'll find what you are looking for in short order.

Not explicitly stated, but I have to assume that you are talking about ground mount where all of the rows start out at the same height. Or a flat roof with angled racking.
On a slanted surface such as a sloped roof, no spacing is necessary.
