  • Solar panel battery charge

    Hi, I'm making a solar project and I have a 7.5V solar panel (250mA & 1.9w) and a 6V battery (4.5mA) .. Is it possible to charge the battery with this panel and have a protection cut-off circuit? I searched and the only circuit that I found thats close is this one but its a 12v solar panel charging a 6V battery.http://www.electroschematics.com/474...arger-circuit/.. If I make the same circuit and change the LM317 and the resisters will it work or will I not have enough volts to charge my 6V battery?? If not is there a way not to loose the volts at the output? thank you..

      I wanted to say 4.5Ah for the battery.. My mistake..

        I don't think 7.5V is going to be enough of a differential to charge a 6V battery.

        Just try it with the panel hooked direct to the battery and with a volt meter, and monitor the battery voltage every 30 minutes or so, and see if the panel can charge it.

        Adding a diode or regulator will reduce the voltage below what can charge the 6v battery.

          Ah probably not
          Generally you want your voltage at max power to be approx 1.5 times battery voltage

            Most panels intended to charge 6V batteries (such as the solar security lights) are 9V panels, but it wouldn't hurt to try yours out on it.
