  • New to Solar, Trying out a DIY

I have been talking about it for years and have helped a couple of my friends build solar water heaters for their pools but I think I want to do one for myself this time. I would like to make one for my domestic hot water. Basically I have only built basic systems that tap into the pool pump and trickle through a solar panel and back into the pool, nothing to complicated. but they work awesome. without going through 100's of threads is there any threads or websites that would show basic plans or setups for what I am looking for. Thanks in advance, This is my first post so if im posting in the wrong section let me know

Thanks for the info. I think my system will be a closed loop system, with prop glycol, I live in Ontario, Canada so im prone to freeze thaw cycles. I already have a sistern in my basement so I will be insulating that and adding a liner and a proper lid for a hot water storage tank, it will also act as my heat exchanger, with a coil in it that will feed solar heated water to my electric hot water tank, im going to draw up a diagram today and post it, see what you guys think, my lift to my solar collector will be about 25 feet so I have to do some research on a circulating pump that will do the trick. my systern will hold about 80gallons once insulated, I can adjust it later by adding layers of 2" insulation needs to be big enough to install coil of 250' of pex piping for heatexchanger coil and hold enough hot water to heat that coil. was going to use soft copper but its crazy expensive.
