  • What Size Battery

OK, I have read so much great info here but feel I need a drink! I need help deciphering so let me just ask the question....

    I currently have a 110W, 17.1V, 6.43A Mitsubishi PV
    Sunsaver 10A controller
Running an inverter with a total load on inverter of 240W for lighting during evening hours, maybe 4 hours per day

What size and type battery should be used??? They have been using trolling motor batteries and probably old ones at that and the batteries never lasted.

    What say you solar gods???

Not that they were the right batteries anyway, but the old ones never lasted because they lived in a constant deficit charge state. To pull 1Kw from a battery bank is going to take 400W of panels and about 300lbs of batteries. Are you willing to reduce the lighting loads? Every watt you don't use is one you don't have to build capacity for.

No wonder you got problems. Everything you have is way too small. To supply you with 1000 watt hours per day with a 12 volt battery requires 400 AH battery and you only have what did you say?

To maintain a 400 AH 12 volt battery requires a minimum 550 watts using a 40 amp PWM controller, or 400 watts with a 40 amp MPPT controller.

You are not even remotely close to what you need., and pretty much replace everything you have to make it work.
